relay for life 2011
is in the books.

with all of the wind and stormy weather we'd had,
i was a bit nervous how the night would unfold.
it turned out to be a beautiful day.

i made cash the "i relay for my grandma annie" shirt
...on thursday night
...at midnight.
because that's how i roll.

this year's theme was
"roundin' up a cure"

the survivor walk is the most inspiring part of the night for me.
all of those people in purple shirts are cancer survivors.
they have heard the dreaded words, "you have cancer"
they have fought a tough battle.
and they have won.

it's emotional.
very inspiring.
very humbling.
tears are shed.
halfway through the survivor walk, the survivors meet up with their caregivers and finish the walk together.
as a reminder that no one fights alone.

i've wrote a lot about my mother-in-law and how cancer took her away from us too soon.
but she is not the only reason why i relay.
above, are also family members.
my cousin has fought a very brave battle.
twice.
with two little boys.

my aunt will be celebrating her 18th year in remission.

this little girl is incredible.
she's been through too much in her little lifetime.
more than a child should ever have to endure.
but, that smile is always on her face.
pure beauty.
pure strength.

cancer should never take away a child's innocence.

the night is not all about tears.
there was lots of fun and entertainment.
square dancing, zumba, jazzercise, pony rides, kids games
...and mustache pictures.
